Mammoth SITE Hot Springs, South Dakota ( note... no hot springs in this town... we asked).

Sad but how it happened is mammoths went into this sink hole and couldn't get out. They have slippery feet and couldn't get enough traction. Died of starvation/exhaustion.

Short nose bear. extinct. Skeleton found in sink hold with mammoths. Standing up this bear could see into a 2nd story building !

size comparison

YES actual site !! they were right here !!!

Terria infront of a mammoth picture for size comparison.

MUSEUM : Locals used bones and skin/hide for shelters.

short nose bear again. 3 1/2" claws.

sink hole ART showing bones down below .... they say they need to dig another 60+ feet to see the rest of the fossils.

Arrow heads

Ok, this may be disturbing but this is the actual baby mammoth. It was on the cover of National Geographic.  Preserved Perfectly.

Standing above, you see the railing and walkways, I can't believe this is an Actual Site of all these fossils.
Cool story, this guy paid for this property, started excavating and started to find all these bones, so he stopped, asked if these bones were anything worth looking into and YES they were!  Sold the property for exactly what he paid.

over 50 male mammoths skeletons are here.... males were known to wander on their own. or maybe a female pushed them in HA HA. They have volunteers and  kids activites. helping look for more, fossils weekly.
